83-Year-Old Homeowner Shot in Skiatook, Investigation Continues

An elderly Skiatook man is in the hospital Wednesday morning as police investigate a shooting and possible home invasion.

The 911 call came in around 2:15 a.m. of a reported shooting and possible burglary at a home on N. Buffalo at Village Park Drive.

According to Skiatook Police Det. Jerry Bullard, 83-year-old Ken Cooper was taken to the hospital with at least one gunshot wound.

At last check, Cooper was undergoing surgery and was expected to recover, Bullard said.

Police had to obtain a search warrant to enter the home, since the homeowner was in surgery and they weren't able to get permission to gain access.

They are now processing the scene.

It is unclear whether the homeowner and suspect knew each other, Bullard said. There were no signs of forced entry to the home.

"We haven't been able to get solid statement from homeowner yet, so there's a lot we just don't know," Bullard said.

According to police, the last time a shooting similar to this occurred in the city was back in 2011.

"There have been shootings, you have your accidental shootings and suicides, but nothing of this nature since then," Bullard said. "This is very uncommon for Skiatook."

Police have not released a suspect description at this time.
