85 pounds of marijuana were found July 23 in Sequoyah County in a pickup truck reportedly heading from California to Florida.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper reported stopping the vehicle on I-40 because the auxiliary lights were turned on. Upon contacting the occupants of the vehicle, Richard Hoese and Henry Castro, both of California, the trooper said he noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.
The trooper questioned the driver, Hoese, who reportedly seemed very nervous, and said that he had only known Castro for a few days.
The trooper then asked and got consent to search the vehicle, at which point he found 75 vacuum-sealed bundles of marijuana inside the truck's toolbox, weighing 85 pounds.
Both suspects were arrested on charges of trafficking marijuana.
