Multiple authorities across Rogers County gathered Thursday morning to kick-off the annual Click it or Ticket event in Oklahoma.
Law enforcement from the Rogers County Sheriff's Office, the Claremore Police Department and various other agencies joined the Oklahoma Highway Patrol outside the J.M. Davis Gun Museum in Claremore for the Click it or Ticket press conference.
"Something as simple as a seatbelt can greatly reduce the amount of injury you will [receive] in a traffic injury," OHP trooper David Kelley said. "Even keep you from dying."
Kelley and hundreds of officers from all over Oklahoma will begin the campaign on May 19. They will be handing out citations to offenders through June 1.
Recent studies state that in 2012 an approximate 708 people passed away from traffic related injuries. Of those deaths, 477 people were not wearing seatbelts.
Kelley told KTUL that the goal of the campaign is to significantly decrease deaths from these sorts of traffic accidents. A survey in 2012 stated that 84 percent of Oklahomans are wearing seatbelts.
