Bartlesville Teen to Stand Trial for Plotting to Bomb High School

Sammie Eaglebear Chavez, 18

A Bartlesville teen appeared before a Washington County judge Thursday morning on charges that he plotted a mass shooting at his high school.

Sammie Eaglebear Chavez, 18, is charged with attempting or conspiring to perform an act of violence, according to court records. At his preliminary hearing a judge decided that there was enough "probably cause" for Chavez to commit the crime.

According to court documents, he will now stand trial next month.

Chavez was arrested after he tried to recruit fellow Bartlesville High School students to assist in Columbine-style school shooting, according to a court affidavit.

The students said Chavez told them he planned to lure students into auditorium and chain the doors shut and begin shooting, the affidavit states.

Back in January, Chavez's bond was increased from $200,000 to $1,000,000 following the deadly shooting in Newtown, Connecticut.
