Below Average Rainfall
Although we received 1.01" of rainfall in the past 24 hours here in Tulsa, Northeast Oklahoma is still experiencing below average rainfall. Aside from the past 24 hours, the last time the Tulsa metro area saw rainfall (above just a trace amount) was October 11th when 0.04" of rain was recorded at the airport. Before the 11th, September 24th was the last day the airport recorded rainfall (0.04").
The average rainfall for the month of October is 4.05". Although the month of October is not over yet, so far the Tulsa metro area has only received 1.05" of rain for the month. The average rainfall for the year is 42.42". So far in 2010, green country has only received 31.78" which is 3.30" below normal for this time of year!
The lack of rainfall and the high temperatures during the summer has created drought conditions in Oklahoma. These conditions have reduced soil moisture that is normally available to plants, placed stress upon farmers to continually water their crops, and increased fire danger.
With the rainfall chances for later on this week and the rainfall that we recently received, hopefully rainfall totals will increase toward normal levels within the next week.
