University of Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops announced the signings of two junior college transfers Wednesday. The Sooners pick up a much needed defensive tackle and a punter.
The d-tackle is Quincy Russell from Trinity Valley Community College. He racked up 75 tackles, 5.0 tackles for loss and 2.0 sacks. He also broke up five passes, forced a fumble and recovered another fumble. From San Antonio, Texas, Russell is a four-star recruit by 247Sports.com and earned three stars from ESPN, Scout and Rivals. He spent his high school career at Sam Houston High School.
Oklahoma's other signee is punter Jed Barnett from Lane College in Oakland, CA. He earned high school all-state honors as he averaged over 50.0 yards per punt and recorded 56 touchbacks as a kicker. He also earned all-region and all-conference in his final two seasons of competition.
"We are pleased that Jed and Quincy have signed with the University of Oklahoma," Stoops said. "They are talented individuals who we believe can make contributions to our program on special and defense."
