Bowling to Benefit Military Families This Weekend

Bowling centers in the Tulsa area are participating in a nationwide benefit for Folds of Honor this Presidents Day weekend.

Folds of Honor raises funds to award scholarships to children or spouses of fallen or wounded service members. According to the organization, many do not qualify for federal tuition assistance.

Donations will be collected at participating bowling centers and can be made online or by text message.

Folds of Honor has an Oklahoma connection. It was started by in 2007 by Major Dan Rooney, a former F-16 pilot in the Oklahoma Air National Guard after witnessing a flag-draped casket being presented to a family on an airport tarmac while a passenger on a commercial flight. The sight of the fallen service member's four year old boy inspired him to create Folds of Honor and see that the child receive the organization's first scholarship.
