TULSA, Okla. (AP) - Navy pilot Jim Bridenstine is looking to defeat Democratic Party nominee John Olson for a spot in the U.S. House after knocking off incumbent John Sullivan in the Republican primary.
Bridenstine defeated Sullivan in June, claiming the five-term congressman wasn't conservative enough for the Tulsa-area district. He also brought up Sullivan's battle with alcoholism, which led the incumbent to miss numerous votes.
Sullivan called the attacks cheap shots but eventually supported the GOP candidate.
Olson says Bridenstine will be no better than Sullivan and called on voters Tuesday to elect a Democrat. He criticized Bridenstine's support of a national sales tax, and said Republicans take voters for granted.
Independent Craig Allen is also in the race.
