Students from Summit Christian Academy helped plant trees in Broken Arrow today as a part of Arbor Day.
Richard Cartar, vice-mayor of the City Council in Broken Arrow said that B.A. has been recognized as Tree City USA for the past 14 years because the city devotes a significant portion of the budget to planting and maintaining trees throughout the city.
Broken Arrow has also benefited from citizens who have made donations to the once treeless city.
Cartar said in 1905 all that existed in B.A. was a few houses and no trees as the city was once a part of Oklahoma's plains.
"I hope we keep doing this forever because it's a program that involves all the citizens and benefits all the citizens," Cartar said.
