Broken Arrow — Several basic needs agencies in Green Country continue to struggle with high food demand over the summer.Broken Arrow Neighbors reported peanut butter and jelly supplies dwindled to about five containers earlier this week. The organization provides "Supplements of Summer" (SOS) bags to children once a month, over the summer, to make up for the lack of school meals. Broken Arrow Neighbors gave about 150 away in June. "Each month in that bag we put peanut butter and jelly. So, we have found ourselves at an all-time low and it's just not something that we're willing to do without," said Broken Arrow Neighbors Executive Director Kim Goddard. The organization wound up purchasing additional supplies to try to keep up.
The organization gets help from the community food bank but cannot get additional shipments of peanut butter and jelly for another three to four weeks. Staff said any additional food donations from the public would be greatly appreciated.
