Care Center Offers Virtual Dementia Experience for Willing Participants
If you've ever wondered what the experience of dementia feels like, one south Tulsa center is offering just that.
Cypress Springs, a memory care center, is hosting "Virtual Dementia Tours" Friday at their facility on South Yale Avenue. The simulations will be available from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
According to the center, the tours are designed to replicate the mental confusion that people with Alzheimer's disease and dementia experience. This is done through the use of equipment and gear worn by the participant.
Each "tour" takes roughly 15 minutes and begins with the participant wearing specific gear that simulates the physical disabilities common in an aging person. Then headphones are worn with a "confusion tape" playing in the headset.
