Charles Ely

Charles Ely has covered most of this region's big stories over the last 28 years. From live round-the-clock coverage of the Oklahoma City Bombing, and the trials that followed in Denver, to the great Midwestern flood, and the Edmond Post Office shootings. While he spends most of this time in the studio as Anchor of our 4pm newscast, he is at home with a wide variety of news assignments. Past projects have included everything from hands-on home renovation to the investigation of troubled charities and the shortcomings of care for our veterans. His reporting has received numerous awards, but he holds three national honors. The Columbia Du Pont Award, a national Sigma Delta Chi Award for Investigative Reporting, and The Livingston Award for Local Reporting. Charles enjoys all kinds of outdoor sports from fishing and biking to skiing and golf, (although he admits he's not very good at it). He also enjoys cooking and photography.{}

Charles came to Oklahoma's NewsChannel 8 from KXAS in Dallas-Fort Worth, where he was a Weekend Anchor and Reporter. He's also reported for WAGA in Atlanta, WBNS in Columbus, Ohio, and WERE-AM in Cleveland, Ohio. He grew up in Cleveland, where he attended St. Joseph High School. He received his Bachelor's Degree at Bowling Green State University and took part in graduate studies at Ohio State University.
