Standoff Situation Ends Peacefully in Hulbert

No injuries were reported after Cherokee County officials ended a standoff situation near 3 p.m. today one mile west of Hulbert.

Authorities with Cherokee County Sheriff's Office reported that they got a call about the suspect, Michael Wyatt Earp, reportedly trying to set fire to his trailer home and shooting a rifle outside at 10 a.m.

Upon arriving on scene, officials tried to enter the man's home but Earp had allegedly barricaded himself inside and would not respond to requests for him to come out.

Multiple responding agencies, including the Tahlequah S.W.A.T. team and Oklahoma Highway Patrol approached and entered the house and were able to safely talk the man out without any shots being fired.

The suspect reportedly did not threaten any law enforcement on scene.

      Earp has been arrested.

Deputies initially closed down the area where the standoff is taking place. The school in Hulbert also was locked down.
