Conquerors Are Determined To Make A Playoff Run

The Conquerors have high hopes and lofty goals for the 2014 season and with good reason. The two-time defending district champs return 17 starters from last years 11-1 squad. Coach Brent Marley thinks his team will be just as good this season even though the record my not show it. "I think so, I've said all along hopefully that shows in the post season. It may not show in the regular season." Victory Christian Head Football Coach, Brent Marley, "Hopefully we can. We have a tougher schedule and we did that on purpose to be better down the stretch at the end to pay off when we get to the playoffs. But I do. All the pieces of the puzzle are there."Keats Calhoon maybe their biggest piece coming back. He's one of the best quarterbacks in the state. He's already thrown for over 5,900 yards and 65 touchdowns heading into his junior season."He's smart. He knows what we're doing and what were supposed to do. He puts people in the right positions." Marley said, "If people aren't lined up right, he's able to make corrections right on the field. And as a coach that's awesome to have that and not worry about your quarterback. Which is the main position with the football, so that's a great benefit to have."

Calhoon will have plenty of targets to throw to. He has four receivers returning that started last season, three of which are over six feet tall. Lately, Victory has conquered the regular season. These seniors are undefeated at 20-0, but its the playoffs where they have struggled. They're just 1-2. But this year they're hoping to change that.

"After the loss last year, obviously we weren't expecting to lose that game." Victory Christian Junior Quarterback, Keats Calhoon, "We had full confidence that we could have won that game. Coming into this year we're going to use that to get motivated and really make sure that we are prepared for each and every game. We don't ever want to have a bad game, so nothing can happen like that again."Victory Christian will be tough again on defense. Last year they gave up a little over two touchdowns a game. The Conquerors open the season on September 6th at Jones.
