Oklahoma continues to be threatened by wild fires this week as firefighters are battling flames on Turkey Mountain. A combination of warm temperatures, low humidity, and windy weather is creating this fire threat. Also, it doesn't help that we are experiencing drought like conditions. So far in 2011, Green Country has only received 4.15" of rainfall compared to the average 7.72" of rain that the area usually receive by this time of the year. We are 3.57" below average for rainfall this year! Last year we experienced wetter conditions where we received 8.27" of rainfall by April.
Also, we have recently experienced very windy weather. The wind gusts, some up to 30mph, can easily spread flames from already existing fires and start new ones.
So stay alert and stay safe. Please report any wild fires to local authorities.
