What began as a controlled burn near Nelagoney got away from firefighters Saturday afternoon, causing OHP to close a state highway, according to an OHP press release.
Nelagoney Volunteer Fire Department notified OHP at 2:44 p.m. that they had lost control of the fire when it jumped State Highway 11.
They had started the burn in order reduce the risk of wild fires.
According to a firefighter on scene, no structures were burned and the situation is now under control. No injuries were reported.
State Highway 11 From State Highway 99 East to Nelagoney Road was closed due to visibility problems caused by heavy smoke. It was re-opened just before 6 p.m., an OHP trooper on scene told KTUL.
