Cop Arrest Spurs Shock & Dismay

Amongst his colleagues, shock doesn't begin to describe the reaction upon hearing the news that Shannon Kepler has been arrested for murder.

"I was scared, I was so scared," said Shannon's daughter Lisa Kepler.

According to the police report, Lisa Kepler told police that her father shot her boyfriend Jeremy Lake, 2 to 3 times.

"He didn't know Jeremy. He had never met Jeremy in his life. Jeremy was just trying to introduce himself," she said.

19 year-old Lake frequented John 3:16 for dinner and chapel services, and was described by the director as a pretty good guy.

"I can't believe it, I don't want to believe it," said Lisa Kepler.

A patrol officer from 1990 to 2000, Kepler then worked as a detective in Child Exploitation for 4 years. For the past ten years his office has been at the training academy where he made sure officers stayed certified.

In a statement, Chief Chuck Jordan stated, "The circumstances around this incident drives home the fact that domestic violence is a societal problem and transcends all economic groups."

"I think with all people domestic violence is a difficult topic," said Missy Iski of Domestic Violence Intervention Services. Their thoughts on a police officer with allegations of murder? "You know, it's a difficult job to have and certainly stress and burnout and all those kinds of things may play a role in somebody really not being together, particularly when it relates to their family," she said.
