Residents of an east Tulsa home escaped a fire early Thursday morning.
Fire crews were sent to the home in the 13400 block of East 46th Street after being notified of a house fire in the neighborhood.
At the scene they discovered smoke coming from the attic. Two adults and three cats were inside at the time of the house fire.
Crews found that the fire had begun in the fireplace and spread through to the attic. They were able to contain the fire to that area of the home.
Firefighters were told by the homeowners that they heard crackling and smelled smoke and that's when they made there way out of the home. Everyone inside made it out safely.
Investigators have not yet determined the cause of the fire. But it is possible that a dirty fireplace could be to blame.
