Three cats were found dead inside a Cherokee County residence earlier this week after a reported burglary incident.
Authorities with the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office are working to determine the events leading up to a burglary north of Tahlequah. It happened July 26 at a residence on West 736 Road.
Information from deputies at the residence states that the homeowner's daughter called 911 after she heard a "thud" in the living room. When the homeowner arrived he found that the window screens had been pulled off two garage windows and the living room window.
According to the report obtained by KTUL, the deputy described that three cats were inside the residence at the time of the burglary. The homeowner found them with broken backs and internal injuries that lead to their deaths.
Officers were not able to determine how many individuals were involved in the attempted burglary. The homeowner reported he didn't notice anything missing inside the residence.
Investigators are now asking anyone with information to come forward and contact that CCSO at (918) 456-2583.
