DEQ Called in after Salt Water Pipe Bursts at Oil Site

A salt water leak at an oil site in Wagoner County this morning caused problems for an oil company.

An authority told KTUL a pipe valve broke off, causing pressurized salt water to spray out. Olympia Oil is the company handling the site.

Around 7:45 a.m. Sunday morning, bystanders called the Wagoner County Sheriff's Office after they said something was bursting out of a pipe at the site. The salt water was eventually shut off.

The salt water is reportedly stored in large black tanks.

The Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality was called in to investigate and make sure that none of the liquid that sprayed the area nearby is dangerous or potentially harmful to animals.
