Rates will begin to increase over the next few weeks for downtown Tulsa parking meters.
City officials state that the increase has been planned for quite some time in order to get Tulsa up-to-par with similar-sized cities. Rates will increase for the entire downtown area.
Michelle Allen with the City of Tulsa told KTUL that the rate will increase to $1 an hour. It currently charges users 50 cents an hour.
Allen added that not all the meters will reflect the increase at once. It will take a couple weeks for in house systems to be updated.
City officials approved the increase in part to help fund the parking meter system.
