The McAlester Buffaloes are preparing for their first state championship game since 1996. They last won the gold ball in 1988. So as you can expect the entire town and the team is excited to face the Guthrie Blue Jays for the Class 5A crown on Saturday.
The Buffs have rolled to a 12-1 record. Their only loss of the season came back in week two against Booker T. Washington."It didn't feel like it at that time, but it was probably the best thing that ever happened to us." McAlester head coach Bryan Pratt said, "We really had to look at ourselves and our kids looked at ourselves. Booker T. is a really good team, but when you blow a 35-10 lead in the first half you're not really happy with the way you played. Our kids really came out after that week and got focused and realized that anyone could beat us. We got a chance to be really good, but if you don't play for four quarters you won't be.The McAlester Buffaloes will take on the Guthrie Blue Jays Saturday night at 7:00pm in Stillwater at Boone Pickens Stadium.
