Eastern Oklahoma Red Cross Sends Five to East Coast for Hurricane Relief

Five Eastern Oklahoma volunteers are in Baltimore this morning to assist with Red Cross relief efforts as Hurricane Sandy arrives on the East Coast.

The Eastern Oklahoma Red Cross flew the volunteers out of Tulsa early Sunday morning before the storm could delay their departure or cause hazardous conditions.

While the volunteers have yet to learn their final destination and assignments, they were all sent to Baltimore where the storm is expect to sit over the state, causing severe flooding. There they will assist in shelter work.

According to the Red Cross, more than 100 emergency response vehicles are on alert to respond, including vehicles from as far away as Wisconsin. Shelter locations are being set up from North Carolina to New York.
