For the next eight weeks, we will be introducing you to 16 of the best high school basketball players in our state. There will be 8 boys and 8 girls. It's time to unveil our Week One nominees for the Elite Eight Ford Award.
"I'm Toree Thompson, guard for Broken Arrow High School and I'm addicted to Hot Cheetos."
She's so addicted she even has Flaming Hot Cheetos socks.
"I love Hot Cheetos and I saw them online on EBay and I was like I want those. Those are cool, so I bought them." said Toree.
Toree and the Tigers have been devouring the competition this year and I think it's more than just the socks. Last week she poured in 68 points in three games. Including 13 against the state's #2 team Edmond Santa Fe. Broken Arrow is unbeaten and a big reason for that is Toree's leadership.
"We're 11-0 right now, but we have to go out every game like we're zero and zero." Thompson said, "Coach Huges tells us we have a bigger target on are backs now that we're #1. We have to go out each game and play hard. Teams aren't just going to let us roll over them."Our week one boys nominee takes us to Owasso High School. He's just a junior, but he's already garnering division-one attention."I'm Shake Milton. I'm a point guard for Owasso High School and I'm a beast at 2K so nobody wants to see me there."
Opponents are quickly finding out it's tough facing him on a real basketball court as well. He's such a versatile player. Last week he racked up 86 points at the Skiatook Invitational.
He learned to play the game from his father, who passed away when Shake was a freshman. As you can imagine losing his dad was tough, but he still draws strength from his memory.
"We had a special bond. He was my best friend. We did every thing together. He taught me everything. I try to be just like him, he was my role model." Milton said, "I feel like he's in the stands now. If I do something wrong or if I do something I could have done better I feel like his voice is in my head telling me what I could have done better. He differently guides me in the right direction."
Congrats to Owasso's Shake Milton and Toree Thompson of Broken Arrow. They are your week one nominees for the Elite 8 Ford Award.
