Ellenberg Voted To Preseason All-Big 12
Oklahoma's Aaryn Ellenberg was named to the five-member Preseason All-Big 12 Women's Basketball Team, announced Wednesday by the conference office.
Ellenberg was an All-Big 12 First Team selection last season after leading the Sooners and finishing third in league scoring with 18.7 points per game. The sharpshooter set OU's hit 115 3-pointers as a junior to set OU's single-season and career records for makes beyond the arc.
The Las Vegas native leads a squad that returns four starters from its Sweet 16 appearance in March and welcomes six newcomers in 2013-14.
Ellenberg earned a gold medal as a member of Team USA's World University Games championship team during the summer. Ellenberg started five of six games, averaging 9.2 points and 2.5 rebounds while shooting 38 percent (9-of-24) from 3-point range.
The Big 12 Conference also announced its preseason honors. The awards were chosen by head coaches, who are not allowed to vote for their own student-athletes.
Baylor's Odyssey Sims was named Big 12 Preseason Player of the Year. Oklahoma State junior transfer Marisha Wallace, formerly of Northern Oklahoma College (Enid), was selected Big 12 Preseason Newcomer of the Year, and Baylor's Ieshia Small was awarded Big 12 Preseason Freshman of the Year.
Joining Ellenberg on the Preseason All-Big 12 Team were Sims, Hallie Christofferson (Iowa State), Imani McGee-Stafford (Texas) and Asya Bussie (West Virginia).
The Big 12 Women's Basketball Preseason Poll will be announced on October 9.
Oklahoma tips off its season Saturday, Nov. 2, with an exhibition game against Cameron University at the Lloyd Noble Center at 7 p.m. Central. The game will be televised on FOX College Sports by Sooner Sports TV.
