EMSA Issues Third Medical Heat Alert of the Year

EMSA has responded to 11 patients with heat-related illnesses since 12:01 a.m., Saturday.

According to the report, eight of the patients were teenagers involved in a football camp at Booker T. Washington High School football field.

Three other adult patients were transported to local hospitals in fair condition for heat-related illnesses. The calls were not related to the football camp.

Emergency crews urge all people to call 911 if they are experiencing any symptoms of overheating.

Tips to stay healthy in the heat:


-Wear light-colored, loose-fitting clothing

-Avoid drinking alcohol or caffeine drinks

-Find a cooling station or go to a public, air conditioned place

-Use the buddy system if working outdoors and check on elderly neighbors.
