More than 200 bicyclists are descending on Eucha this weekend for an annual race that will help benefit the local fire department.
It's all taking place Sunday morning beginning at the Eucha Fire Department located southwest of Jay and north of Lake Eucha. And officials with the Eucha Classic Road Race iterated it's importance for the community since it began three years ago.
EFD Chief Cullus Buck told KTUL his 15 volunteer firefighters help provide medical assistance for bicyclists if needed. His fire department in turn receives a portion of the registration fees.
Officials with the race hope to raise an estimated $3,000 for the EFD. Last year they received more than $2,000 that has help them purchase new equipment when needed this past year.
And the amount means a lot to the volunteer fire department. Especially if they race reaches its goal of more than 250 bicyclists this year.
Organizers told KTUL that the race has drawn bicyclists from all states surrounding Oklahoma. Even all the way from Louisiana.
"Eucha is just a small little community and it's exciting to bring them to our beautiful area," organizer Chris Wilcox told KTUL.
