Fetal Heartbeat Bill Signed Into Law

Governor Mary Fallin

Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin signed the Heartbeat Informed Consent Act into law on Friday.

The legislation requires providers who offer abortion services to women to give their patients the chance to listen to the heartbeat of the fetus prior to having an abortion.

Oklahoma Senate Bill 1274 was amended by the State Senate to require that the chance to hear the heartbeat be offered rather than required.

The law will take effect on November 1, 2012.
