Fires have already burned in several parts of Oklahoma this past Friday. And the threat for more fires continues through the end of this week.
Fire weather concerns will increase Wednesday through Friday this week. The threat will be especially high on Thursday and Friday. Despite the rain that we experienced this past weekend, Oklahoma remains dry and there is plenty of fuel to burn. With below average rainfall for the month and for the year, the vegetation and grass is very dry.
Temperatures are expected to soar into the 70s and 80s this week which increases the fire threat. Above normal temperatures and below average rainfall combine with gusty southerly winds and low relative humidity values to create the fire threat.
Keep an eye out for fires. If you see one in your area, immediately call the 9-1-1 and report it. Also, heed all advisories to evacuate if necessary.
