Firefighters Rescue Man from Arkansas River Wednesday Morning
TULSA, Okla. —
Tulsa firefighters were called to rescue a man, stuck in the middle of the Arkansas River early Wednesday morning.
A passerby spotted the man clinging to something near the low-water dam and called 911.
Two rescue teams deployed boats into the river, one of them downstream from the man in case he was swept away from the first crew.
Firefighters say the man was trying to swim across the Arkansas River near the pedestrian bridge when he realized he couldn't make it.
They say he's fortunate because the river is high and running swiftly, and the man could easily have been sucked under the water.
He wasn't hurt, though police say he could face a fine because it's illegal to swim in the Arkansas River.
