Floral Haven Cemetery Kicks Off Memorial Ceremonies

American pride is on full display in Broken Arrow.

Teams from local junior ROTC programs worked all day Friday to post hundreds of flags at Floral Haven Cemetery. The Memorial Weekend tradition has been going on for 39 years now. It includes 2,851 casket flags of veterans donated in years past.Avenue of the Flags is one of many things happening there over the next few days. Oklahoma Blue Star mothers will accept care packages for soldiers overseas on Saturday.

Saturday, May 28, 2011 - Monday, May 30, 2011Collection of Items for Freedom Boxes for our Troops Serving in Afghanistan and IraqThe Broken Arrow Blue Star Mothers Chapter 5 are sponsoring a collection for Freedom Boxes, which are sent to our military troops overseas.{} These items should be travel and individual sized toiletries, EZ-Mac & Cheese packets, instant oatmeal, pop-topped ready to eat pasta, pop topped ready to eat soup ,tuna pouches, chicken pouches, salmon pouches, pop-topped canned/Dried fruit, beef jerky, Slim Jims, breakfast bars & pop tarts, granola bars, crackers,sunflower seeds or trail mix, coffee/tea bags, hot chocolate, powder drink mixes, spiced apple cider, candy, creamer/sugar packets, unscented baby wipes, foot powder, eye Drops, hand sanitizer, Chap Stick, dental floss, mouthwash, toothpaste, disposable razors, acetaminophen, ibuprofen, Aleve, socks, AA batteries, hand warmers, puzzle books, and mechanical pencils.

Saturday, May 28, 2011 - Monday, May 30, 2011The Changing of the Guard at The Tomb Of The Unknown SoldierMembers of the Starbase Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol will reenact the "Changing of the Guard" at the replica of the Tomb of the Unknowns west of Floral Haven Funeral Home.{} They will be performing this solemn ceremony 24 hours a day (every half hour during the daytime and every hour at night) beginning at 1:00 PM Saturday.
