Reports that food stamps were not being accepted across the area were confirmed by Department of Human Services.
According to DHS representative Sheree Powell, Xerox, the company that manages the EBT system suffered a power outage at their data center.
The food stamp issue is not related to the government shutdown.
Xerox manages the EBT system for several states. Power has since been restored to the facility and the EBT system is being rebooted.
Powell does not have a time estimate on when the program will be up and running.
According to a manager at the Warehouse Market near W. 51st Street in Tulsa, the system went down around 10:15 a.m. The manager stated that they were able to accept credit and debit cards.
The Reasor's on 15th Street reported the same issues.
By noon today, Xerox had the debit cards system running and hope to have the EBT system back online soon, however no timeline has been established for that.
This is a developing story and more information will be added as it is verified.
