Former Mayor of Guthrie Dies From West Nile Virus

A former mayor of Guthrie has died from the West Nile Virus.

Jon Gumerson died Saturday at age 76.

He died the same weekend the First Christian Church of Guthrie was holding a blood drive in his honor.

The church says Gumerson taught Sunday School at the church for 50 years.

He was also an avid Sooner fan and local businessman.

Gumerson served as Guthrie's vice mayor from 1969 to 1971 and as the city's mayor from 1971 to 1973.

He also served as mayor from 2001 to 2007.

A memorial service will be held Thursday at First Christian Church at 2:00 PM.
