Former TU Football Player Dies Following Fight Night Event
Former University of Tulsa Linebacker George Clinkscale has died following a boxing event at Wednesday evening at Guts Church.
Clinkscale, 24, who played for the Golden Hurricane from 2005-2009 was participating in the Sixth Annual Fight Night event when he said he reportedly began complaining of cramps and an requested an IV from EMSA paramedics.
A short time later he was transported to St. Francis Hospital where tragically died a few hours later.
Guts Church issued a statement later Thursday expressing their sadness in his passing. "We are deeply saddened by the passing of George Clinkscale.George will be remembered for his warmth of personality and his commitment to his family, and he will be greatly missed." We join George's many friends in mourning his passing. Our hearts and prayers are with his family and friends."
Today TU Head Football Coach Bill Bakeshop released a statement to ktul.com saying "Our football program has been shaken by the news of George Clinkscale's passing. The thoughts and prayers of the entire TU football family go out to his family and friends during this terrible time. George was much too young to be taken from us. He was an extremely passionate and bright young man who will be greatly missed and long remembered by his teammates and coaches. The thing I was most excited about in George's life right now was how tremendously excited he was to be a father. He was passionate about working as a football coach and how much he could make a difference with those young men. It's a tragic loss for all of us."
Details into the cause of Clinkscale's death are pending notification from the Medical Examiner's Office.
We're told the Fight Night event was not a sanctioned fight and is being investigated by the State Attorney General's office.
