Gov. Fallin Requests Federal Funding for Winter Storm

Governor Mary Fallin announced the state's request a major disaster declaration in relation to the December winter storm.According to a press release, if the state's request goes through, federal funding would be sent to assist municipalities, counties, rural electric cooperatives and state infrastructure repairs related to the winter storm.Counties in the request include Choctaw, Le Flore, McCurtain and Pushmataha. According to the statement, an estimated $6.5 million in infrastructure damage and response costs where a result of the storm.The winter storm started Dec. 5 and went through the 12th. The storm caused thousands of homes and businesses to lose power, dangerous road conditions and school closures for nearly a week. Counties may be added to the request at a later date should conditions warrant, according to the release.
