Joy Hofmeister clinched the Republican nomination for State Superintendent of Public Instruction.
The former school teacher and current business owner defeated incumbent Janet Barresi and challenger Brian Kelly to win her party's nomination in Tuesday's primary.
Hofmeister's victory ends one of the more heated races in the primary. Hofmeister and Barresi both aired several attack ads in the days leading up to the election.
Hofmeister will face the winner of the Democratic primary in the general election in November.
