Campaign Encourages Students Steer Away from Tobacco
Health insurance group Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma hopes to encourage kids to not use tobacco through a new campaign.
It kicks off its "Be Smart- Don't Start" anti-tobacco campaign Monday.
Over 78,000 Oklahoma children already use tobacco, according to Oklahoma State Department of Health statistics. Each day, the equivalent of another classroom gets hooked. Many children become regular smokers at age 11.
The Be Smart-Don't Start Anti-Tobacco Contest offers curriculum that is Smart Board compatible, interactive and customized for students K-2nd grade and 3rd-5th grade. Classes can submit a video, audio or visual entry about the lessons they learn and win prizes including an iPad, iTunes gift cards and a class trip. The contest runs until Feb. 18
