Friends and family gathered in Jenks this week for the dedication of a bridge in honor of a fallen soldier.
Oklahoma officials came together Thursday afternoon to rename a bridge in Jenks the "Specialist Dylan Johnson Memorial Bridge." Johnson was killed in 2011 during his service in Iraq when enemy forces attacked his vehicle with an improvised explosive device.
"I am the chairman of the transportation committee and this is the first dedication I have been able to work on for someone who has impacted me," Senator Gary Stanislawski said. "Dylan was a student at Jenks when I was on the school board. I feel so honored to have been involved."
According to a report from the Jenks Journal, Johnson was 20 years old at the time of his death. The attack occurred on the 26 day of his intended six month deployment.
