A jury found a Salina man guilty Thursday afternoon with first degree manslaughter for a 2013 fatal wreck near Kellyville.
Both sides in David Ernst's court case have been in a Creek County courtroom since Monday for his jury trial process. Members of the courtroom finished listening to witness statements Thursday morning and moved onto deliberations in the afternoon.
Court records indicate that prosecutors charged Ernst after he was released and treated from his injuries. He's was found guilty of driving the vehicle that killed 74-year-old Vernon Bowles, 74-year-old Susie B. Frazier, 51-year-old Vivian R. Henry and a 9-year-old Alex Henry were killed in a head-on collision in August 2013.
Jurors in Ernst's trial found him guilty on all four counts of manslaughter. Jurors recommended more than 30 years in prison.
Previous reports from KTUL state that that Ernst was driving the red pickup truck that hit a Buick sedan head-on. The accident took place on Highway 66 between Kellyville and Sapulpa.
Troopers with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Creek County Sheriff's Office and the Kellyville Fire Department and Police Department were all on scene. Officers closed the road down for hours at the time of the incident.
