KTUL'S First Anchorman Passes Away

{}{}{}{}{}{} KTUL is sad to report that our station's first news anchor, Jack Morris, has passed away.

He died on Saturday in Dallas, where he had been living with his daughter.

{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{} Jack signed on with KTUL, first called KTVX, in 1954.{} He was in charge of heading up the news department.

"Well, I think the best word to describe it as far as organizing a news department, we were very primitive."

{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{} For more than 20 years, Jack was a well loved newsman behind the KTUL anchor desk.{} And, when he teamed up up with Don Woods on weather, and Hal O'Haloran as sports director, they became a real Channel 8 family.

"One of the funniest things I got a tremendous kick out of was when Don did candy commercials, I think for the Griffin Grocery Company.{} The studio crew would always try to break him up in some way, they came to relish the idea of Don breaking up while he was doing a commercial."{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{} Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, December 11th, at Moore's South Funeral Home.{} We extend our condolences to Jack's family, he will be missed by many.
