Firefighters responded Tuesday to a large grass fire northwest of Avant.
Crews told KTUL that high winds kept the fire moving quickly. It was hard for them to control and crossed county road 2250 more than once.
Avant, Skiatook and the Bureau of Indian Affairs had crews working the fire.
It burned about 3,500 acres of mostly ranch land, although it did come within about a mile of some homes.
Firefighters have controlled and contained the fire to rough terrain, where access by vehicle is limited, and will return in the morning.
