Helicopter Assisting Crews in Pawnee County Grassfire

Firefighters in Pawnee County continue to battle a grassfire that has been burning since earlier this week.

Multiple fire departments remain in the areas near Terlton and Jennings after a grassfire sparked up Sunday. It has burned more than 2,000 acres.

Officials with the Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management told KTUL Tuesday that the grassfire was originally under control, but were notified that it had flared up again in the evening. Strong and shifting winds have made it difficult to control the blaze.

"I would say we have about 22 fire departments and probably 100 guys," said Michelle Davis of Terlton Fire Support.

No injuries have been reported since the grassfire sparked. But families were evacuated due to the close proximity of the fire to structures.

A helicopter with the Oklahoma National Guard arrived Wednesday to help provide additional support.
