Littell Hires UMKC's Whitaker To Replace Serna

STILLWATER, Okla. - The women's head basketball coach at{}Missouri-Kansas City has resigned to become associate head coach{}for the Oklahoma State women's basketball program.

OSU head coach Jim Littell fills the position previously held by Miranda Serna. She along with previous head coach Kurt Budke died in a plane crash late last year.

Candace Whitaker announced her departure in a statement on{}Monday. Missouri-Kansas City Athletic Director Tim Hall credited{}Whitaker with building the program and leaving it in shape forcontinued success.Whitaker, a former Texas Tech women's basketball standout, led{}the Kangaroos to a 22-12 season and their first appearance in the{}Women's National Invitation Tournament.Missouri-Kansas City also{}placed fourth in the Summit League and went to the Women's{}Basketball Invitational in the 2009-2010 season, marking the team's{}first-ever postseason tournament berth.Hall says Bruce Erickson will serve as interim head coach for{}the Kangaroos while a national search for a permanent head coach{}gets under way.
