Tina Rose has found success, but the search started with a different sound than what you'll hear at the salon. She grew up singing and it was tough when her goals weren't met early."It was just like 'I feel like I'm a failure, I'm a failure,'" Tina said. "Like gosh I'm, you know, in my late 20s. We all had plans of having our albums out when we were 18."That's not necessarily a lofty goal, considering who her parents are. Her father is legendary Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, Leon Russell. Her mother, Mary, is a Grammy-nominated singer.Growing up college wasn't even discussed because music was her obvious future."But you know things like that you, kinda find out the hard way," Tina said followed with laughter. "You know not everybody makes it in music."She made local headlines, toured with her dad for several years, but never really made it big."For a long time, I thought that being successful meant that I was a successful musician," Tina said.Tulsa's Channel 8's Kristin Dickerson asked "What do you consider a success now?"Tina responded with, "Being happy? Enjoying what you're doing and being able to make a living doing that."But just as she came to terms with not reaching her musical goals, a chance encounter with an old family friend brought an unexpected invitation."She said, 'Well dad wants you to be on his next album. He's doing this duet album with a bunch of females and he'd really love for you to do a song with him and I was like 'wow' that's nice okay, you know, not that I didn't believe her . . . but I'm um, I don't even know how to explain it. It's just like 'okay that's cool, ya, you know,'" Tina said.A trip to a Nashville studio, and one and a half takes later, Tina Rose is on Willie Nelson's CD along with Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton, Carrie Underwood, and Miranda Lambert.Kristin: "What did you think when you found out all the other artists on the duet album?"Tina: "I don't think I can say those words. (Laughs). It was kind of like "Wholly molly! Ya, I can translate: wholly molly this is unbelievable. (Laughs)."Kristin: "What an honor for you."Tina: "That's the thing that's so exciting. It's like oh my gosh I'm on this album with these women and some of them are . . . You don't even think of them as real people. You know what i mean?"Kristin "They're so big"Tina: "Uh huh, ya."Kristin "What do you think this album will do for your music career? Any idea?"Tina: "I have no idea. It'll definitely allow more people to maybe find out who I am."So after decades of searching, Tina has found her own version of success. It's hidden in the balance between makeovers and music."I'm always gonna do music. I don't care if it's at a coffee shop for free, even if it's just at home, or wherever, or singing to my daughter," Tina said.Willie Nelson's new album titled "To All The Ladies" debuted on Billboard at number nine. You can see more pictures and music videos of Tina and her famous family at www.TinaRose.Com.Tina also designs her own jewelry line called Metisse Rose, you can find out more at www.MetisseRose.com
