Man Arrested for Alleged Rape of Woman at Assisted Living Center

A man was taken into custody this week for reportedly raping an 80-year-old woman at an assisted living center.

Officers with the Northern Oklahoma Violent Crimes Task Force arrested Stephen Reed for first degree rape. He was located in Claremore.

Initial information states that Reed allegedly sexually assaulted the woman at the Autumn Leaves Memory Care Assisted Living Center. He was the victim's caretaker, according to the report from Tulsa Police.

The victim suffers from Alzheimer's and dementia.

"Whenever we interviewed her she was pretty high functioning for that," says Sgt. Mark Mears. "In general these cases are difficult because the victim doesn't recall things or they may recall things that happened in their past and feel like it happened yesterday," Mears said.

Officers with the Sex Crimes Unit at TPD received the report of the alleged rape and filed an arrest warrant for Reed on Monday.

Reed's first count is for raping a woman who was mentally incapacitated or of unsound mind. The second for rape by force or fear, according to the release.

He is being held on $100,000 bond.
