A man is dead Thursday morning after a high-speed pursuit with a Tahlequah officer ended in a crash.
Few details were released at this time, but the Tahlequah Police Department confirmed that it took place before 2 a.m. just south of the Northeastern State University.
An officer with the TPD stated that he had attempted to make a traffic stop for the vehicle traveling "in excess of 70 mph" through the intersection of College Avenue and Morgan Street. The individual driving the vehicle was identified as 31-year-old Brandon Hestwood.
Both the officer and the suspect went into a brief pursuit until Hestwood lost control of the vehicle on Vinita Street north of Grandview Road.
"Hestwood was ejected during the crash and sustained major injuries," information from the TPD described. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Further details are expected this morning.
