Semi-Truck Wheel Hits, Kills Man Changing Tire on Highway

A man was killed Friday morning while he was changing his tire on the side of the road.

It happened after 7 a.m. three miles west of the Afton exit on I-44. This is in Craig County.

Troopers with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol told KTUL that Terrence Luxton had been changing his tire of the side of the road when a semi-truck drove by and lost one of its wheels. The wheel reportedly hit Luxton and killed him.

Henry and Rebecca Leja were identified as the drivers of the Volvo tractor trailer. Both are from Michigan. Luxton was from Missouri.

No other information about the accident was provided at the scene. Troopers with the Vinita Highway Patrol officer were sent to investigate.

A release from Oklahoma Department of Public Safety stated that the cause of the accident was due to an "unsafe vehicle wheel."
