Mannford Woman Pleads Guilty to Wrongly Receiving Disaster Benefits

Tuesday a Mannford woman pleaded guilty in federal court to fraudulently receiving money given by the Federal Emergency Disaster Agency (FEMA) to Mannford wildfire victims.

Kerry Lynn Rowell, 42, fraudulently received $31,400 in FEMA disaster benefits.

Rowell pleaded guilty to a charge that she made false statements to a federal agency and will face a maximum period of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Statements from Rowell from 2012 and 2013 show that Rowell claimed her residence was destroyed by wildfires, when in fact she did not live in that residence. The house was actually owned by her mother and was run down.

The case was investigated by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Office of the Inspector General and the U.S. Secret Service.
