A Marble City homeowner was arrested on complaints of first degree murder and second degree arson yesterday after a body was found inside his burned home Saturday morning.
The Marble City Fire Department, among other authorities, responded to the house fire off of Main Street with a possible victim inside around 6 a.m. Saturday.
Sequoyah County Sheriff's Office's Ron Lockhart said foul play was suspected in the fire because there were three areas in the home where the fire began.
In addition to the body of a deceased male inside the residence, a female with severe burn wounds was transported to Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa. She had escaped the fire by jumping out of a window.
Lockhart said her injuries are not expected to be life-threatening but did say approximately 25 percent of her body was burned.
Lockhart said that after an interview with the homeowner, Arty Farris, he was arrested because his story was not adding up. Farris was also present during the fire, Lockhart said.
The cause of death for the deceased male has not yet been released. The body is being examined at a medical examiner's office.
