Marijuana Growing Operation Found After House Fire
A hidden marijuana growing operation may have started a house fire in Owasso.
The Owasso Fire department responded to a house fire in the 14000 block of East 101st Street North around 10 p.m. Tuesday night.
While they were putting out the fire, firefighters found a hidden room in the attic with a large marijuana cultivation system.
Police were called to the scene. The homeowner admitted to the illegal grow operation and gave consent for the officers to search his residence, according to a release from the Owasso Police department.
Officers recovered a complex hydroponic grow system, grow lights, over 40 marijuana plants, bags containing packaged/dried marijuana, scales, a loaded handgun and more than $8,000 in cash.
The official cause of the fire has not been confirmed, but early indications point to a faulty ballast box on the grow lights as the source of the fire.
The case is being turned over the district attorney.
